Aquaforte Drum Filter XL

The Aquaforte Drum Filter XL is a mechanical pre-filter designed for use on ponds to remove dirt and debris from a ponds water before the water passes into a biological filter. The biological filter can be a moving bed or bead filter that are designed to remove fine particles and perform the nitrification process on the ponds water.

Although these drum filters are more expensive than a conventional pre-filter such as an Ultrasieve. They have many advantages, they will filter dirt particles down to 75 microns, this removal of small dirt particles, less than the width of a human hair, significantly reduces the bacterial load on your biological filter make them more effective. In addition these drum filters are totally automatic ensuring that the maintenance required on your pond is significantly reduced.

How they work

Water enters the drum filter through the inlets to the filter, the water then passes into the drum where particles as low as 75 microns are removed. the water is then passed through the drum screen to the outlet side of the drum from where it then goes to the biological filter. As the drum screen becomes dirty, leass water can pass to the 'clean' side of the drum where the water level will start to drop. This water level is monitored by a water level switch whichdetects differences in the inlet and outlet water levels.

The water level switch detects the change difference between the input water level and output water level and sends a signal to the drums controller to activate a cleaning cycle. The drum filter itself will decide when the drum screen needs cleaning. Once a cleaning cycle has been initiated by the controller, the controller will rotate the drum automatically and activate the pressure cleaning pump which will pump water under pressure through the spray bars to wash the drum screen and dislodge all the dirt from the inside of the drum. This dirt or debris from the pond, is basicaslly jet blasted into a collection shute which is connected to the waste outlet of the drum and therefore all the dirt particles are removed automatically. Once the cleaning cycle has finished (approximately 20 seconds) the drum filter simply returns to normal filtration mode. You can decide if you wish to clean the drum with mains tap water (minimum  pressure: 2 bar, Maximum pressure: 4 bar) or with a pressue pump using the clane pond water (recommended).
